Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island (Ross Island)

t’s hard to believe that this quiet island, surrounded by the blue waters of the Andaman Sea, was once the headquarters of British administration in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Today, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island, still popularly known as Ross Island, is one of the most fascinating places to visit near Port Blair, where history and nature exist side by side.

A short boat ride from Aberdeen Jetty brings you to an island filled with old churches, colonial buildings, a bakery, a printing press, and the ruins of the Chief Commissioner’s residence. Over the years, giant banyan tree roots have slowly wrapped around these structures, creating a unique landscape that attracts photographers from around the world. Friendly deer and peacocks roam freely across the island, adding to its peaceful charm.

Whether you’re interested in history, photography, or simply want to enjoy a scenic island walk, Ross Island offers a completely different experience from the beaches and water sports that Andaman is famous for.
